Freshroll Privacy Policy

The short version

Freshroll does not collect any data about you. We have no accounts, no servers that receive your data, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Freshroll analyses your photos, contacts and calendar on your iPhone, and that information never leaves your device because of Freshroll.

What Freshroll accesses, and why

Freshroll asks for each permission only when you use the feature that needs it. You can change these permissions at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security.

PermissionWhat Freshroll does with itWhere the results stay
Photos (read and write)Finds duplicates, similar photos, screenshots, blurry or dark photos, Live Photos and large videos. It also deletes the items you confirm, and saves compressed videos and still versions of Live Photos that you create. On your iPhone. Deleted items go to Recently Deleted in the Photos app for 30 days.
ContactsFinds duplicate and incomplete contacts, then merges or removes the ones you choose. On your iPhone. Freshroll saves a backup first (see below).
Calendars (full access)Finds old events so you can remove them. Birthdays, subscribed calendars and recurring events are protected. On your iPhone.
Face IDUnlocks your Private Vault if you turn this on.Face ID is handled entirely by iOS. Freshroll never sees your face data, only whether the check passed.

To compare photos, Freshroll computes small numeric fingerprints of each image, such as a visual hash, sharpness and brightness. To make rescans faster, it keeps a cache of these numbers inside the app on your iPhone. The cache does not contain your photos.

Information stored on your iPhone

Freshroll stores a few things in its own private storage on your iPhone. None of it is sent to us.

Device backups. If you use iCloud Backup or back up to a computer, iOS may include Freshroll's app data in that backup. That includes the contacts backup and the encrypted vault files. Apple handles these backups under your device settings. We never receive them.

Deleting your data. When you delete Freshroll, iOS removes all of the app's data from your iPhone. That includes the contacts backups and the Private Vault. Vault passcode and key entries in the Keychain may remain on the device, but without the vault files they cannot be used to read anything. Photos you deleted with Freshroll can be recovered from Recently Deleted in the Photos app for 30 days.

Purchases

Freshroll Pro is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple processes all payments. We do not receive your name, email address, payment details or Apple Account information. The app checks whether you own Freshroll Pro on your device with Apple's StoreKit. Apple's privacy policy covers the purchase itself: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

What we don't do

Information Apple may share with us

If you turn on Share with App Developers in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, Apple may share anonymised crash reports and app usage statistics with us. Apple controls this sharing and you can turn it off at any time. We use it only to fix bugs.

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to send. We use it only to reply to you, and we delete it when it is no longer needed.

Children

Freshroll is not directed at children and does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above and post the new version at this address. If Freshroll ever starts collecting data, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy label before the change ships.
